Let’s Do Business- 3 Towns, 3 Venues, 3 Dates
Galway County & City Enterprise Board [GCCEB] is marking SME Week 21st – 25th October with a Road show around Galway County and a series of events which will provide information and inspiration to individuals with business ideas and existing business owners.
The Road show features local business owners, Pádraic Ó Máille, mentor trainer and motivator and Breda Fox, CEO of the Galway County & City Enterprise Board. All speakers are there to share their experiences and offer advice, support and encouragement. Breda Fox said: “We are looking forward to meeting people who either have an idea to start a business or who may be at the early stage start up or existing businesses thinking of new products or markets”.
Local entrepreneurs and will speak about the challenges and opportunities in the current economic climate and how they are positioned to make the most of opportunities with the support of their County & City Enterprise Board. The Road show will visit the following towns with local speakers:
On Thursday 24th October the GCCEB will visit The Theatre, Station House Clifden from 7-8pm with local speaker Graham Roberts owner of Connemara Smokehouse. Aged four, he was scoring a penny every time he washed a fish box for his dad. Aged six, he was helping out with everything. Today, in the Connemara Smokehouse, it is the boss himself who hand-fillets the fish, salts it, smokes it. This is artisanship. His tenure has been marked not just by superb smoked fish, but by an impish need to innovate, which has led him to create smoked tuna recipes and products that are perhaps the clearest expression of his signature style, using both cold- and hot-smoking techniques. Rick Stein buys it for his Padstow restaurants, a genuine accolade.
Ms. Fox has added that: “The Road show allows us to meet local entrepreneurs and small businesses to share information on our supports. The local business story will inspire them and Padraic will add energy and motivation to the event. It’s important people know that the Galway County & City Enterprise Board and other entrepreneurs and experts are available and willing to share their experiences and to help. Since January, we have approved EUR400,000 in projects to create 39 jobs and support an additional 48. This supports 14 businesses in Galway, split evenly between start-ups and existing businesses and will create employment across the county and city. Our policy is to try and help anyone with a business or business idea. Sometimes it is training; mentoring or often a refocusing of the business goals that is required but we see each idea or business as unique and deserving of support”.
